What's trending in 2022?

If these past couple of years have taught us anything about our homes and how we want to live, it is that we have entirely too much STUFF! As we have spent so much more time in our homes and with our families, we have realized we need more space. Whether that comes down to needing a larger home, decluttering, finishing a basement or outdoor space, or becoming a minimalist (stay with me, here), it seems that we all know someone who has made a significant change with their living space. We want MORE space, which leads us to some of the trends we will be seeing (and continuing to see) in 2022.
More space doesn't necessarily mean more square footage, but rather more area to do the things we need and want to do. We're seeing minimalistic living in a whole new light, tuck away the Tiny House Nation episodes that just flashed through your mind. We're simply talking about tossing out all the unused items (let's get real, if it wasn't used in the past 2 years, it probably never will), turning rooms and areas into multifunctional spaces, even opting for less bulky furniture (think retro and outdoor-style) to gain that extra space.
With multifunctional spaces in mind, there has been no shortage of work for contractors, or How-to YouTubers, for that matter. Meditation rooms, reading nooks, home gyms, outdoor spaces and wet bars have become high on the priority list of things to build/finish, or desires in a new home.
Speaking of retro and outdoor-style furniture, 2022 is all about eclectic decor. Not ready to retire your modern farmhouse faves? You're in luck! It's all about working with what you've got. Tying in coastal elements and natural/raw woods and materials, along with touches of trending color schemes, and you'll have yourself a fresh update. Check out the new Sand and Sable line at Wayfair.
Don't be shocked to see glass, leather, and rattan furniture combinations. Throw in a brass or gold metal statement piece, such as lighting, and you can give a quick update to your existing pieces. It also seems that wallpaper is here to stay, at least for 2022. Take a look at the new plaids and vertical stripes (yes, please!) at Brewster Home Fashions.
As for color trends this year, we're seeing all the greens and warm neutrals-we're bringing the outdoors in, getting back to nature. I think I see a theme here.
